Isaac Newton said: “Truth is ever to be found in simplicity and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things.”

In this blog article I share with you 3 steps you can take to simplify your life. This is particularly important if things have got on top of you, there is too much clutter, you feel drained and overwhelmed and your energy levels are not what they should be.

One of the reasons why you might resist change is because of fear of the unknown and uncertainty. However, the best way I have found to simplify your life is to let go of anything that is stopping you from having a sense of inner peace, joy and happiness.

You might feel like you are not succeeding if you have to let go of certain things, however this extra load might be the very thing that is causing you stress and anxiety.

In the New York Times Bestselling book "The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results" the author, Gary Keller, explains that you must find the One Thing you need to do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary.

What is the one thing you need to do that will make everything else easier or unnecessary?

Reducing your load to just one thing makes the task of simplifying your life for greater inner peace much easier.

You will find below my 3 recommended steps you can introduce today in order to simplify your life:

Step #1: Let go of your messes

Your messes are anything that is visually or emotionally messy. It could be a messy flat, garage, office desk etc., which needs clearing or a messy relationship that needs healing.

a) How to cut through the clutter in your environment and find peace

This might surprise you however as you cut through the clutter in your living and/or working environment you will notice that you will be breathing much deeper and you feel more at ease and peaceful. You are probably thinking as you go around your space: “I must clear this, I must clear that…” however, it never gets done. Just looking at and thinking about what needs to be cleared without taking action occupies too much space in your mind. You will not feel peaceful until you get it done because you are holding on to old energy.

Therefore, in order to declutter and to create more order in your life, you can schedule an appropriate time to do this. You can keep it simple by using three separate bin bags: one that says: ‘Keep,’ one that says: ‘Give’ and one that says: ‘Throw Away.’ You could introduce the idea of 'the one thing' by filling first the ‘Give’ bin bag. You will only manage to get this done if you schedule it in your diary so please make sure you set a date to get started. What is scheduled gets done

 b) how to heal a relationship that got messy and find peace

A relationship that ended up badly where you have not made peace with the other person disturbs your peace.

Write a letter to the person you wish to make peace with; you can send it or keep it and then burn it. This will lighten up your emotional load. You can write about how this person made you feel and/or how sorry you are for the way you made them feel, how you felt as a result of their behaviour or how their behaviour has affected you. However please note that, ultimately, when you write your letter it is with the intention of finding peace, therefore you must open your heart to love and forgiveness. This is not about blaming yourself or the other person’s deed. Remember that people do the best they can with the resources they have available and what they know at the time.

Please complete your letter from a place of understanding and compassion. You cannot change what happened but you can change your belief about it.

Step #2: Let go of your incompletes.

Your incompletes are anything you have started but you have not completed and it is still nagging you and disturbing your peace. It could be something you started studying; making like a painting; writing like a book; redecorating or decluttering etc. I highly recommend that you complete any incomplete because you wholeheartedly want to complete it and not because you feel guilty about not completing it. If it is the former you can decide on a completion date and schedule it in your diary. If it is the latter it is OK to let it go for good.

Spending time worrying about your incompletes holds space in your mind and stops you from creating space for something new in your life. You can only do that by letting go of the old.

Step #3: Let go of the ‘Ain’t it awful club’

When you choose inner peace you look at your life from a place of optimism and this becomes your mantra and your new way of life. Therefore, if you are surrounded by too much negativity this will end up draining you long term and stopping you from moving forward.

You will recognize the ‘Ain’t it awful club’. It is filled with people who complain all the time. They complain about the weather, their partner, the government etc. Complaining, judging and blaming is a habit that disturbs your inner peace. Therefore, become more aware of the times you start complaining and choose a brighter outlook or solution instead. Dr Wayne Dyer said: “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Start changing the way you look at things today!

Useful & practical success habits to simplify your life:

  1. Send love or change your thought to a positive outcome whenever you are faced with pessimism.
  2. See the light in any situation so that you can move away from the low vibration of negativity and move into a higher vibration of being which is more peaceful.
  3. Whenever you find yourself complaining, judging or blaming change it into something positive. Remember that life is a gift!
